Energetic Medicine.
Much research is showing that there is an unseen energetic universe around us.
Einsteinian Physics means we are understanding the world in a different way. We know that
the observation of any object actually changes the object. We are therefore manufacturing our
own experiences. Putting this another way, we each create the universe simply by looking at it!
Of course in every day life we don’t usually run around thinking like this; Newtons apples
continue to fall from the tree.We also don’t give much thought to the fact that we are mainly
made up of nothing.
Our atoms have mass in their nuclei but consist of tiny orbiting electrons that fit in an
energetic groove. The electrons give the semblance of solidity by their wave like existence.
The space between the nuclei and (wave like energy of) the electrons is huge and empty.
Both of the last paragraphs are absolutely true. So why do they sound like madness? And how can that possibly be?
The universe is a sea of energy having it’s being in many different forms. Our unique human
energy has its place and is not normally thought about in such terms.
There is however a growing number of people – particularly those in the healing professions who see
and understand that a patients energetic form can be approached directly. This approach to the
energetic side of us is often viewed with some suspicion. We like to see and measure everything
empirically. We are used to seeing tested drugs measured out in milligrams and having a very
noticeable and often almost instantaneous affect.
I believe that a new approach is emerging and necessary and can work alongside standard allopathic medicine.A great example of this is that a top London hospital actually employs a full time healer. The usual noises are being made about the ‘placebo effect’ and the ‘extra attention’ brightening up patients but the fact is the amount of good that is being done has been deemed worth a wage. That being said I think healthy scepticism has its place, there are certainly complementary practitioners who are only qualified in the barest terms making some astonishing claims. However there are also a growing number of very able and caring people who are working in a genuine way.
So what is energetic medicine?
I like to keep the explanation fairy broad but I think Energetic medicine is a system that makes
subtle alterations to the human body’s vibrational signature.
We are familiar with some kinds of energetic medicine but they are extremes such as laser surgery,
radiation therapy and MRI scanning. That is why I have used the word subtle in the definition.
Energetic medicine when used properly makes tiny little energetic changes that change the quality
of the life experience for the patient. It is not as straight forward as taking ‘a pill for an ill’.
We require a new paradigm of what healing is. For instance energetic healing would be suitable
for someone who was dying, not so much like morphine for the pain but more to soothe a soul in
transition and even make it easier to let go. The WHOLE patient is treated not just a symptom.
This is the origin of the much overused word holistic
What else is energetic medicine?
Diagnostically new machines are coming to light such as the quantum machine or the older radionics
devices. These tools can enable the energetic practitioner to find particular areas of concern but
I feel that they are a little too much like standard medical thinking when used in this way
I see Homeopathic medicine as energetic and I use some very modern homeopathic remedies and
emotional remedies in my practice. Remedies can work simultaneously on many levels e.g. physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual. Another way of looking at this is with the body having differing
energetic or vibrational layers (for a beautiful and detailed exploration of this Barbara Anne Brennan’s work is unsurpassed).
Hands on healing of any kind is energetic in its nature but it requires either an outright gift or
discipline and practise.
Using crystals to enhance energetic technique is another effective method.
Visualisation and meditation can be used and help to hold and enhance the vibrational shifts.
Sound is an energetic healer and quartz bowls, toning, drumming and chanting are used successfully
by some practitioners. We know from modern research that sound and vibration has an enormous
influence on the brain and can change the brains resting state (i.e. theta, beta and alpha waves
on the E.E.G. machine) and the brain’s chemistry.
Many other methods and tools exist to work with the human energy field but essentially they will
either directly affect the vibration of the field such as with sound, or more subtly with a remedy
from within. When working with the hands the healers energy field is used as a conduit to access
energy from the universe to change the patients vibrational field and also to clear inappropriate
patterns in their field.
Although cranial osteopathic treatment is very technical in it’s basis I do feel that there is
some blurring of the physical/energetic in its practical application. The treatment by its nature
is aimed at the deepest most hidden part of the patient and my conclusion over the years is that
cranial osteopathy does have a healing component.
